  • Facebook

Monika Maslowska is a screenwriter, scholar, educator, and translator.

Monika has written and co-written a number of short and feature films as well as documentary films. She also works as a shadow writer and a script consultant.

Monika teaches screenwriting at the University of Malta currently finishing her PhD research on Maltese screen narratives at Bangor University, UK.

Monika will talk about how different screenwriting is from other forms of writing, which includes explaining the American model of storytelling, the independent film model and the Asian model with particular reference to Parasite (Bong Joon-ho), The Farewell (Lulu Wang) and Shoplifters (Hirokazu Kore-eda) and what it takes to write meaningful, emotionally honest stories - ones that are psychologically resonant.

The lecture is suitable for screenwriters, producers and directors.
